Braggin’ Rights Georgia vs Alabama Recap and Top Players

Huntsville, Alabama– It may have been storming outside the gym, but 2019 6’4 G Brandon Nicholas made it rain all night long. He started the game 3 for 4 behind the arc, and finished with an outstanding 26 points, but it was the late heroics of 2019 PG Jalen Harper that would be the difference maker in overtime.  Harper pinned back his ears and went full throttle penetrating the Jaguars’ defense. In overtime, Harper scored ten points, finishing the night with 22 points, in the 70-63 win.

The Game of the Night between Mountain Brook High School and Meadowcreek High school can be described as a “street fight”. Wasn’t a lot of scoring, but a whole lot of basketball was being played. 2019 PG Jalen Benjamin was tough defensively for Meadowcreek, forcing the Spartan guards into untimely turnovers. 2019 6’5 G Jamir Chaplin displayed his athleticism in the paint with eight jaw dropping dunks, however, the Spartans would not go away. In the third quarter Mountain battled back into the game with a full court press led by 2020 G Colby Jones and 2019  G Alex Washington.  2019 6’4 F Lior Berman was very impressive with his footwork and scoring but it came down to 2019 6’9 Trendon Watford’s game saving block to secure the 45-44 win for the Mountain Brook High School Spartans. After a missed free throw, Watford sprinted back to meet Chaplin at the rim in the closing seconds.  Watford told Hoop Hustlers, “I was upset I missed the free throw, but you can’t give up, you have to get back on defense, and that is what I did.” Chaplin finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Watford finished with 18 points.
