NYBL Report: The Battle at Magic City (Day 1)

Birmingham – Many of the Nation’s top youth and NYBL teams are participating in The Battle at Magic City. Freebandz Elite started the day off pouncing their opponent (JCE) 67 – 17. Freebandz were led by newcomer Marquavious Brown and Gabriel Omoregie.

Team Thrill’s 7th grade team beat (OASG) 71 – 25. Team Thrill is on Hoop Hustlers watch list as one of the top 7th grade teams in the country. Team Thrill was led by Derik Queen, a 6’4 beast inside the paint. Other players who stood out for Team Thrill was Isaiah Williams and Kiyre Transou.

Georgia Stars 8th grade team was in a battle with OASG and at one point were down 16 points. They rallied back and won the game 71 – 65. This game was a very exciting and long game. Both teams played well and had good players that stood out. Georgia Stars were more talented than OASG, but you can tell they haven’t developed the chemistry need to win an event like this. For the Stars, Cade Phillips and Tahj Johnson stood out but Jamari Arnold single handedly brought the Stars to life.

Best Player on Day 1: Ashton Brown, a 6’4 wing out of Brampton Canada – Played with DCA 2.0

Brown was a standout who played inside and outside. Had enough handles to go coast to coast after snagging the rebound off the rim. We look forward to seeing more of this Kid.
