Tournament of Champions Showcase Preview

Meadowcreek (9-2) is making noise this season solidifying their spot as one of Georgia’s top basketball teams this season with key wins over Wheeler High School (GA) and Norcross High School (GA). In the Tournament of Champions Showcase against Holy Spirit look for the explosiveness of 2019 6’5 F Jamir Chaplin and the defensive prowess of PG 2019 Jalen Benjamin. The guard play of Benjamin and 2019 Emmanuel Collier will be a key factor in the matchup against Holy Spirit Prep.

2019 Anthony Edwards is a quick starter for the Cougars and it is no secret he can explode at any time to get buckets in bunches.  However, with the lane being clogged up by the athletic Chaplin, look for Edwards to showcase his mid-range game when attacking. With the attention on Edwards,  2020 PG Deandre Brown will look to fill in the scoring role when Edwards is double teamed and hit open shots from the three-point range.

All the basketball fans and scouts will be in the gym to  watch McEachern face off against Wheeler High School. Wheeler may have stumbled out the gate with a disappointing 70-54 loss to Meadowcreek in their season opener, but they have bounced back and found their stride. They are now on a nine-game winning streak including wins over Norcross, Holy Spirit, and Westlake High School. PG 2019 Jaire Eastmond is proving he is one of the best point guards in the state with his outstanding play this year. 2019 G Charles Smith IV scoring ability is shining however, they will be put to the test against McEachern High School. A great point guard battle between Sharife Cooper and Jaire Eastmond is in the making.  2019 Issac Okoro will be the difference maker for the Indians in the matchup. Something you may want to key an eye on is Bucknell commit 2019 6’7 Malachi Rhodes’. Rhodes has been strong inside the post, dominating the paint and leading fast break opportunities for Wheeler this season.

PG 2019 Jalen Harper has been impressive thus far leading the Falcons. G 2019 Devin Gordon has been adding to the attack with his uncanny scoring ability slashing and shooting the long-range three.  2019 6’8 Derrick Harden has been big in the paint. A match-up between Harden and Heritage Hawks’ (3-2) 2020 6’10 Ebenezer Dowuona will be interesting.

Lincoln Academy (GA) (8-1)  has climbed the ranks and has been one of the premier prep school’s in the nation. They are a talented bunch and get your camera’s out because 2021 Frank Anselem, 2021 Bretner Mutombo, and 2021 Camron McDowell will surely be a highlight reel. Freshman Jalen Carruth is one of the best three-point shooters in the state and is not afraid to have the ball in tight games. Carruth’s clutchness will be needed as they face off against a tough Legacy Early College Lions team (SC) (11-2). The Lions are led by 6’8 2019 Jalyn McCreary who is coming off a 17 pt, 5 rebounds performance against Rabun-Gap. 6’7 2019 Chase Claxton and 2019 G CJ Jamison Jr will be key factors for the lions.
